Scherch Ecological Design Support
I regularly talk with people who are inspired to learn and explore how to grow food, generate and conserve energy, restore and conserve soils, harvest rainwater, create beautiful gardens and habitats, and so on.

2006 Organic Agriculture & Permaculture Design Training
Kollegal Tibetan Settlement, Karnataka State, India
I have taught courses, workshops and offered "walk-about" talks on Permaculture Design (PD) in Bangladesh, China, India, Hawaii and in the U.S. As a Professor of Antioch University Seattle's Environment & Community Program,
I am also a professional Social Worker committed to working with
individuals, communities, schools and institutions on capacity building for social change and sustainable
living. Read more about my work here.
My wife and I modestly try to apply at our home what we teach -- we simply grow a few fruits, vegetables and useful plants, harvest solar electricity, catch rainwater for gravity irrigation, build soils with mulches, compost and worm castings, and generally look & listen before we act (very important!).
Drawing on our own experiences and collaborations with others, we assist with:
| observation & "site seeing" |
soil & composting systems |
labor-saving garden designs |
| solar energy systems |
useful plant & animal guilds |
learning materials & readings |
| rainwater harvesting & use |
models & examples |
references & referrals |
I believe that the tools & techniques for sustainable (successful) living should be easy and fun to implement, inspired by unique needs, shared interests, and place-specific conditions.
